Slovenes. The occupier left and took along the loathsome “carpet-baggers”,
while Bosnia and Herzegovina remained part of Europe and its sociopolit-
ical and cultural space. Liberated from the occupier, it could think freely
about its cultural choices, without impositions and pressures, or fear for its
own national rights. We can therefore claim that the freedom of choice was
the decisive point that marked the moment when the culture that had ar-
rived in baggage became a universally accepted cultural orientation.
