Some highlights

The Department’s scientific activities address innovative topics in the fields of the
Italian language and intercultural studies, while paying special attention to research
that emphasizes the local perspective: literature (in standard language and dialect)
and culture in Istria, actual position of languages in the Slovene Littoral and Istria.
Research conducted by the Department distinguishes itself for a high degree of
specialisation and quality, both in scientific and applied research projects. In recent
years, national and international research projects dealt with Italian language anal-
ysis, teaching, promotion, valorisation and dissemination in Slovenia and abroad,
studying economic, academic and educational systems in multilingual areas.
The Department prides itself on a high efficiency in attracting public and foreign ex-
ternal funding for research, as well as numerous opportunities offered to young re-
searchers to conduct multidisciplinary and innovative research projects.
