our region, as well as capitalizing on the Department’s expertise, introduce an
important development of the academic field in both countries.
Students are our partners
Besides in situ lectures students are offered organized visits and study trips, they
participate in projects and scientific meetings organized by the Department. Direct
contact with resources at the Faculty, in museums, libraries, study and research cen-
tres is an invaluable practical experience. The Department has thus created a net-
work of links with public and private institutions where students can develop aca-
demic and transversal competences by undertaking practical training and project
work in these institutions.
Students are our pride
We are especially proud of those students, who have gained various awards. In 2012
the Faculty of Humanities granted the Bartol’s Student Award to our graduate Va-
nja Rener for her dissertation titled Preiskovalno pisanje med književnostjo in novinar-
stvom: primer Gomorra (Investigative reporting between literature and journalism: the
case of Gomorra). The University of Primorska awarded with the Srečko Kosovel
Award our graduates Erika Gregorič in 2016 and Nika Smotlak in 2020. In 2014 Pa-
olo Pozzi, M.A., was awarded the second place in the Italian national competition
for dissertations into young adult’s literature at the University in Aquila, Italy, for his
master’s thesis titled Fulvio Tomizza as a writer for young adults: an analysis of the yo-
ung adult’s literature produced by the Istrian writer. We are also proud of five under-
graduate students (Arianna Božič, Lara Eler, Gaia Kavalič, Ines Haupt in Leda Pe-
tra Pitamič), who were recipients of the award for the illustrations and design of the
children’s book »Che gioia ... / Such happiness ... ) at the 15th International Com-
petition for Young Adult’s Literature (lnternationaler Kinder-und Jugendbuchwett-
bewerb »Auf Schmetterlings- und Schwanenflugeln«) in Statgemeinde Schwanen-
stadt, Austria (2017).
