How Preschool Teachers are Coping with Hygienic Recommendations
to Prevent the Spread of SARS-CoV-2
The course of work in kindergartens changed completely with the outbreak of
the COVID-19 epidemic. The proposed hygiene recommendations of the Na-
tional Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) posed a major challenge to preschool
teachers, as they were difficult to adhere to. There were many differences be-
tween kindergartens. These depended mainly on the understanding of the
measures taken and how the staff are coping with the current situation. The
purpose of this paper is to show the extent to which preschool teachers have
adapted to the new conditions and followed the Hygiene Recommendations
for Preventing the Spread of SARS-CoV-2, which greatly increased their work-
load and reduced time for direct work with children. The sample included 190
preschool teachers, who are employed in kindergartens throughout Slove-
nia. The results of the questionnaire showed that preschool teachers followed
the general recommendations and the recommendations regarding the use of
toys, as well as the rules regarding cleaning and disinfection. In addition, they
are well acquainted with the protocol in the case of suspicion of a sick child in
the group.
