Summary
UDC 78

The paper is a well-rounded biography of the composer, teacher, and conductor Herib-
ert Svetel (1895−1962) that is mostly based on documents from family archives. Svetel first
studied law in Prague and, after the end of the World War I, in Ljubljana, where he grad-

Matej Hubad, in the same year, he took over the position of choirmaster of the Nation-
al Railway Music Society Sloga. He participated in the founding of the Society’s Music
School (1926) and proved to be a dedicated teacher. In 1929, he became the artistic direc-
