ARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND HERITAGE

In 2006, an independent Department of Heritage (headed by Prof. Mitja Guštin,
PhD) was formed at the Faculty of Humanities within the Department of History,
renamed Department of Archaeology and Heritage in 2012 (headed by Prof. Irena
Lazar, PhD). In 2006, the department started implementing the Bologna study pro-
gram Cultural Heritage at the 1st level and had offered a wide range of education
for under- and postgraduate levels in archaeology and protection and promotion of
cultural heritage in a broader sense.

addition to the doctoral study programme Archaeology, the department also took
over the implementation of the doctoral programme Management of Cultural As-
sets and Archivistics (headed by Assist. Prof. Zrinka Mileusnić, PhD).

The Cultural Heritage study program is the only study program of its kind in Slove-
nia; it is designed to be distinctly interdisciplinary and connect basic scientific fields
such as archaeology, history, art history, and ethnology. Additional study content
also extends to the field of conservation, museology, interpretation, and heritage
management.

The double-major study programme Archaeology, the 2nd cycle study programme
Archaeological Heritage of the Mediterranean and Archaeology (PhD programme)
are designed to be contemporary and open towards the international sphere. It
is distinguished by numerous Slovene and foreign visiting professors as well as the
possibility for students to join various research projects at home and abroad.

A special feature of the undergraduate study programmes is the dual-subject mode
that enables students to acquire knowledge in two professional fields and who con-
