of Geography by the University of Primorska in 2016.
The department cooperates with an extensive network of partners in the fields of
study, research and professional development. The network provides our under-
graduate and postgraduate students with many opportunities to carry out their
practical training. Since its inception, the Department has been cooperating closely
with the Anton Melik Geographical Institute at the ZRC SAZU in Ljubljana and with
the Karst Research Institute at the ZRC SAZU in Postojna.
Students are our partners
With the help of our students, the study of Geography at the University of Primor-
ska has been shaped into a modern, varied and applied study programme, which
equips graduates with competencies enabling them to understand various problem
areas of our complex world and act according to the demands. We have created a
genuine partnership with our students, which is reflected in a relaxed and creative
work atmosphere, in respectful interpersonal relationships and open communica-
tion. Students feel free to both praise and criticise teachers, which helps us make
sustained improvements. Such cooperation and strong interpersonal ties are cer-
tainly enhanced during our regular fieldwork, which lasts several days at a time.
We are proud of them
We are especially proud of those students, who have gained various awards. In 2010
the Faculty of Humanities granted the Bartol’s Student Award to our graduate Kat-
ja Klep, in 2009 to our doctorand Gregor Kovačič and in 2015 to Tina Počkar for her
master’s degree. The University of Primorska awarded our graduates Ela Šegina in
2013 and Vanja Korenč in 2017 with the Srečko Kosovel Award. In 2012, Miha Ko-
derman was conferred the Award of the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad
for his doctoral dissertation. We are also proud of all the undergraduate and post-
graduate students who successfully published results of their research work, along
with their supervisors. The list includes 10 original scientific papers, 2 review papers
