Some highlights
Our students are regularly involved in various projects carried out by the depart-
ment staff, such as Comprehensive Demographic Analysis with Projections for Rural and
Urban Areas, These Common Tracks, or Tradomo. In 20 years, the department (co-)
organized 10 high-profile scientific conferences. One of the last two conferences
was held in September 2016 and dealt with Regional development, sustainability, and
marginalization. It attracted participants from all geographical institutions in Slove-
nia. The second important conference was the Thematic Conference of the Inter-
national Geographical Union entitled Transformation of traditional cultural landscapes,
which took place in September 2019 and gathered participants from 5 Commis-
sions of the Union. In September 2015, the Department of Geography co-organ-
ized an event combining Ilešič Days and Melik Days. The department endeavours
to popularize geography in the wider region of Primorska by organizing events such
as round tables, travel talks, professional training for teachers, book presentations
and lectures on current geographical topics. These all take place within Geograph-
ical Evenings at UP FHŠ.
