sentation of Chinese culture within traditional Chinese festivals

The local community is offered a glimpse into Chinese culture by participating to the
traditional Chinese festivals, such as Lantern Festival, which marks the arrival of a
new year, the Dragon Boat Festival in spring, while in autumn the Moon Festival and
the Seniors’ Festival are celebrated. All these festivities have origins in the rich Chi-
nese cultural tradition, thus offering an opportunity for an intercultural encounter
and learning about Chinese beliefs, values and customs. The growing public interest
in these events confirms the increasing attention paid to discovering a still mysteri-
ous Chinese “otherness”.

Cooperation with Chinese academic, cultural and artistic institutions

Numerous exchanges between UP and Chinese academic, cultural and artistic in-
stitutions promote deeper ties and cooperation. They take place within the frame-
work of the Erasmus Plus programme or with the support of the Chinese Minis-
try of Education and Science (Han Ban). Apart from collaboration with SUIBE, new
links have been established with the Ningbo University of Technology, Shanghai
Normal University and Anhui Normal University. Cooperation with these institu-
tions leads to common scholarly endeavours in the field of humanities, philosophy
and art, as confirmed by the opening of the new Centre for Bie-Modern Studies.

Centre for Bie-Modern Studies (CBMS)

In the spring of 2019, the Centre for Bie-Modern Studies (CBMS) was founded at
the UP FHŠ within the framework of CCK UP. The aim of the centre is to establish
international cooperation in the field of the Bie-Modern Theory, which was first de-
veloped by prof. Wang Jianjiang and has recently been gaining traction at the global
level (a similar centre was set up also in the USA). On the one hand, the Bie-Mod-
ern Theory focuses on modern art, on the other hand, it deals with the larger cul-
tural and social development within the global context. In a certain sense, it seeks
to counterbalance the Western colonial and post-colonial approach to dealing with
the development of modern societies. Initially, the aim was to develop a tool to ex-
plain modern China, but the theory soon proved to be relevant also for other cul-
tural, historical and geographic contexts that do not follow a linear development
