CONFUCIUS CLASSROOM KOPER
The CCK UP was established in autumn 2014 in order to render the Chinese culture
and language more accessible to the local citizenry. The University of Primorska set
up the centre in cooperation with the Confucius Institute Ljubljana and the SUIBE
University in Shanghai, thus becoming part of a worldwide network of universities
that host Confucius Classrooms and confirm an ever-growing interest in China in
the last few decades. The pursuits of the CCK UP are accomplished at various lev-
els and offer the local community a range of opportunities to engage with the Chi-
nese culture. Since 2020 CCK UP has been incorporated as a centre within UP FHŠ.
Courses of Chinese language and culture
In the first five years the CCK UP has established cooperation with the majority of
elementary and secondary schools in the Coastal region:
- Regular courses of Chinese language and culture at various levels are held at
the Elementary school (ES) Elvira Vatovec Prade and ES Vojka Šmuc in Izola,
while occasional workshops on Chinese culture are organized at ES Lucija, ES
Ciril Kosmač Piran, ES Koper, ES Šmarje, ES Pier Paolo Vergerio il Vecchio and
ES Dragomir Benčič – Brkin Hrpelje.
- Regular courses of Chinese language and culture at various levels are held also
at the High School Izola and Gimnazija Koper, while occasional workshops in-
troducing Chinese culture are held also at the GEPŠ (Academic Maritime and
Electro High School Piran).
At the university level, courses of Chinese language and culture have been running
for a number of years at the Faculty of Tourism (UP FTŠ), thus allowing us to cre-
ate a vertical link between courses of Chinese for tourism at secondary and tertiary
level and giving students the opportunity to study Chinese for at least seven contin-
uous years. Occasional workshops and presentations are given also within various
events at UP, such as Science Night and Welcome to freshmen.
A range of courses and workshops catering to the needs of the general public are also
provided at the seat of CCK UP. These include courses for students and adults at all lev-
