This chapter aims at describing the peculiarities of the e sp practiced by Lan-
Guide referring to, on the one hand, the linguistic technicalities involved
for developing a mobile application for foreign language learning and as-
sessing, and, on the other hand, the aspect of culture imbued in the exer-
cises prepared. Thus, in what the former aspect is concerned, four different
specialized fields (academic, mobility, administrative, and i t), six different
languages (English, Romanian, Slovenian, Italian, Croatian, and Spanish),
three different language levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and
three different learning personae (student, teacher and administrative staff
member) were targeted, while, in regard to the latter aspect, a very special
approach was used for integrating the cultural element in the tasks designed
for this mobile application. Consequently, in perfect accordance with the
literature review on Computer/Mobile-Assisted Language Learning, Lan-
Guide distinguishes itself from other language learning mobile applications
by not only harmonizing e s p to c a l l/m a l l, but also by combining the
communicative approach to teaching a foreign language with that of the
digital era.
