Land Use Changes in the Settlements of Dvori, Movraž
and Rakitovec in the Last Two Hundred Years
This chapter presents the results of a bicentennial land use compari-
son in the settlements in the far northeast of the municipality of Koper:
Rakitovec, Movraž and Dvori; the data from the Franciscean Cadaster
from the year 1818 was compared with the data from 2022. We followed
the previously established methods by merging specific land uses into ca-
tegories that enabled further comparisons. Land use changed drastically
in all three settlements in the last two centuries due to various reasons.
In comparison to the present time, the studied settlements had much
larger areas of grasslands (including pastures), shrubs, and, in Dvori
and Movraž, also vineyards. The predominant current category is forest
that has overgrown the majority of pastures and meadows, whereas the
grasslands are now in the areas of former fields.
