Understanding and Supporting Gifted Adults: Perspectives
of Former Students of the Faculty of Education
The article deals with gifted adults who are completely ignored in the Slove-
nian research, educational and social context. In addition to presenting the
most outstanding characteristics of future adults in the cognitive and affective
sphere, as well as in the professional and family environment, we present an
empirical study conducted among graduates of the University of Primorska,
Faculty of Education. The study was thematically divided into: the develop-
ment of giftedness from childhood and the impact of early educational experi-
ences; characteristics of gifted adults; career and work characteristics; a family
of gifted people; life goals, satisfaction and well-being, and confirms the re-
sults of many foreign longitudinal studies that testify to similar characteristics
of gifted people and their lives. Above all, it points to the fact that giftedness is
an integral part of a person’s personality that accompanies them throughout
their lives. Therefore, work with the gifted should not be limited to the period
                  of compulsory education.
