Background and purpose: Physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep (i.e. 24-hour
movement behaviours) have an important impact on health and well-being. Aware-
ness of their co-dependence has recently led to the recognition that it is sound to
examine and address them in combination. The purpose of this presentation is to
introduce our ongoing project “ Implementing the concept of 24-hour movement be-
haviours as a determinant of health into the Slovenian environment (GIB24)”.
Project presentation: The purpose of the project GIB24 that is funded by the Sloveni-
an Research and Innovation Agency and Ministry of Health from Republic of Slove-
nia, is to implement 24-hour movement behaviours as a determinant of health into
the Slovenian environment. The objectives of the project are: (i) to develop Sloveni-
an 24-hour movement guidelines for adults following the established GRADE-ADO-
LOPMENT methodology; (ii) to adapt a set of questions from the national health sur-
vey NIJZ – Health-related behaviours in the Slovenian population to allow assessment of
movement behaviours across the whole day; (iii) to conduct cognitive interviewing
and to establish test-retest reliability and validity of a new set of questions for assess-
ment of 24-hour movement behaviours; (iv) to implement this new set of questions in-
to the national survey NIJZ – Health-related behaviours in the Slovenian population 2024
and to estimate the prevalence of an unhealthy 24-hour movement behaviours in the
Slovenian adult population; (v) to implement assessment of a 24-hour movement be-
haviours in preventive programmes at the primary health care level; and (vi) to intro-
duce the 24-hour movement paradigm to the professional and general public and to
raise awareness on the importance of 24-hour movement behaviours for health and
well-being. izzivi na področju ergonomije, gibalne (ne)aktivnosti ... | challenges in human factors, physical (in)activity ...
Conclusions: This presentation will include early findings from the project activities.
Among others, it will include a draft of the Slovenian 24-hour movement behaviours
guidelines for adults. The project GIB24 will lay the foundations for integrative moni-
toring of physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep, and for the promotion of a
healthy 24-hour movement behaviours in Slovenian environment. The evidence-based
findings of this project are anticipated to inform future policies of public interest relat-
ed to movement behaviours for public health.
