quickly able to decide in which direction she wanted to continue. In the 2nd
year, she did an internship at the Summer school of the Slovenian Language on the
Slovenian Coast “Hello, this is the Slovenian Mediterranean!”, where she participated
in the organization and conducted afternoon consultations for students. Her partic-
ipation in the summer school continued in the following years, and for the last three
years, in addition to the organization, she has also been leading the lectureship for
the advanced training group. In the academic year 2017/2018, she started teaching
Slovene to foreign students within the Centre for Slovene language and culture of
the Department of Slovene studies at Faculty of Humanities, which she still does
regularly. She conducts courses at levels A1 and A2 for different groups of speakers
(non-Slavs, Macedonians, Serbs, Croats, etc.). She also deals with Slovene as a for-
eign language in her doctorate, so pedagogical practice and research are closely in-
tertwined in Nika Pavletić’s career.

Some highlights

Among the most important events organized by the Department are three ex-
tremely resounding scientific conferences with international participation.

The first of the three mentioned events organized by the Department is the organ-
ization of international conferences Intercultural Dialogue as a fundamental value of
the EU which was attended by over 300 participants from all over Europe and was
rounded off with post-conference proceedings. It was led by prof. Vesna Mikolič and
under the auspices of the Representation of the European Commission in the Re-
public of Slovenia in 2008.

In 2010, the Department celebrated the 97th anniversary of the cross-border writer
Boris Pahor with the first international scientific conference on his work ever. The
conference Boris Pahor - Man and Literature was attended by experts in Pahor’s work
from all over the world. The department also published conference proceedings.

The third international conference, Slovene Intercultural Neo-Avant-Garde – The Poet-
ry and World of Tomaž Šalamun, was initiated by prof. Zvonko Kovač from the Fac-
ulty of Arts in Zagreb. The conference took place in 2011 when we also celebrated
the 70th anniversary of this exceptional Slovenian poet. The conference proceed-
