Has, and How Has, the Work of School Counselling Changed
during the COVID-19 Epidemic?
The School Counselling Service (hereafter SSS) is one of the fundamental ar-
eas of education, and the purpose of its work is to make all participants in the
school environment as successful as possible in achieving basic, general, and
special education goals. As an integral part of any educational institution, it is
involved on a daily basis in the complex resolution of many educational, psy-
chological, and social issues. During the transition to distance education, the
work of the SSS has also undergone many changes, which are presented in
more detail in this article. Based on the results, we note that all three basic
types of SSS activities changed during the epidemic. The most pressing prob-
lem was the lack of personal contact with students, parents, and teachers, and
the lack of student responsiveness. The substantive and organizational role of
the SSS also changed radically, focusing on the advisory role in collaboration
with teachers and management, and advisory work with students was not re-
alized. In the future, it would be useful to pay more attention to the develop-
ment of appropriate guidelines and recommendations for telework, including
counselling.
