Verba volant scripta manent: Summary

The idea of creating an archival fund dedicated to the process of the estab-
lishment of the University of Primorska, kept in the Koper Regional Archives
(KRA), arose after the publication of the monograph on the establishment of
the University of Primorska, Hicetnuncaude.¹ This monograph already gath-
ered a large amount of archival material consisting of documents, records
and testimonies, which could be supplemented with archival material on all
those who participated in the establishment of the University. Together with
my colleagues, I wanted to treat the archival material according to the stan-
dards and norms prescribed by the archival profession, with texts, illustra-
tions and visual material inviting the reader to look back at a time when the
founders finally reached their final goal of establishing the third public uni-
versity in Slovenia. The publication was undertaken by the Koper Regional
Archives and the University of Primorska Press.
The introduction contains the contributions of the Rector of the Univer-
sity of Primorska, Klavdija Kutnar, the Director of the Regional Archives Koper,
Nada Čibej, and myself as the editor, together with a description of the con-
tents. Mirjana Kontestabile Rovis, an archivist at RAK with a doctorate in ped-
agogy, used her experience and knowledge to place the work in a historical
context and to emphasize the importance of archival material for preserv-
ing the historical memory of the establishment of higher education in Pri-
             morska.
My contribution described the efforts of local intellectuals to attract hu-
man resources and state support for the realization of a challenging project:
to connect and consolidate different fields of research and to obtain financial
and political support, as well as the support of the other two public univer-
sities in Ljubljana and Maribor. This process, which began in the 1970s with
the establishment of the first centers of higher education outside Ljubljana,
and continued with the establishment of the University of Primorska in 2003,
is condensed into a mere twenty pages – an admittedly modest volume for
a very complex process. The publication describes the first groups of edu-
