The tourist destinations of Austrian littoral, that were mentioned, had,
in the phase of formation and in the establishment of modern tourism, suc-
cessfully positioned themselves in the market. Towns had become famous
and popular tourist destinations in both local (regional) and wider national
and even in foreign area. Travel trends had mainly followed European fash-
ion trends, but with the specifics that were typical for this area (caves). The
successful development of tourist activity is also shown in the investment in
tourism infrastructure, by national and local authorities as well as by private
investors. Good transport accessibility and promotional activity contributed
to an even greater success of destinations, which had primarily developed on
the basis of natural resources, attractiveness, and new medical findings. The
development was temporarily adjourned by the First World War, which at the
end also established new borders.
