crisis, that could not be influenced by the leading. Some other factors recog-
nized in history, such as the role of intermediaries and tourist agencies in the
discussed period of time, did not come to the fore. Partly they were present,
for example in health spa resorts, where spa managers and health committees
were integrated and connected with foreign agencies that promoted their des-
tination. These factors were during the research mentioned and placed only
indirectly into the contents.

So far we have analysed a relatively wide spectre of tourist destinations
or sorts of tourist destinations. In the analysis, we originated from the es-
tablished methodology (economic historians) in the international area. We
checked the existence and effects of factors of tourism development. The dis-
cussed tourist destinations, as well as those of related type, had specific nov-
ices, initiators and developments. Some destinations have achieved a high
recognisability on national or even international level, others somewhat or
significantly smaller. The success of a certain health resort and tourist desti-
nation depended on location itself, natural resources, fashion trends, accessi-
bility, medicine, interest in investing in tourism infrastructure, and also reg-
ulation and current fashion direction.

We found out that tourist destinations or typologies of destinations fol-

had developed later, but they were combined with multiple forms of tourist
health spa offers, namely climatic in winter and bathing in summer. The lat-

European area, as the Mediterranean Sea destinations were gradually orient-
ed only at the beginning of the 20th century and were established throughout
the 20s and 30s. On the other hand, Grado and Portorož had been established
as summer destinations already at the very beginning. The initial health spa
activity of the sea resorts was more and more oriented in a resort one, one that
was also more financially and economically prosperous.

The feature of the coastal area of Primorje was undoubtedly the devel-
opment of cave tourism, which represents the earliest example at global lev-
el and which was mainly realised in Postojna cave where it achieved great suc-
cess. In addition to this cave, the analysed tourist developments were also in
Vilenica and Škocjan caves, where the initiative and tourism organisation
were taken care by the caves section of mountaineering society. The two caves
did not achieve as much recognisability as the Postojna cave (especially not
Vilenica), which depended on various factors (transport accessibility and lo-
