Augmented Reality in Early Childhood Education: Studies, Challenges,
and Future Perspectives
Augmented reality (AR) has only been used for educational purposes for two
decades. It was first used in universities and secondary schools, and in recent
years it has been increasingly used in preschools and elementary schools. This
paper examinesthe studieson the use of AR in preschool and early primary ed-
ucation and highlights the benefits and advantages of AR, such as increased
motivation, attention, conceptual skills, and interactive and engaging learn-
ing. After analysing the research findings, it can be concluded that AR is par-
ticularly effective in promoting children’s engagement, perseverance, concen-
tration, creativity and social interaction. However, there are certain limitations
and challenges to its use, such as technical difficulties and the need for pro-
fessional training of teaching staff. Unfortunately, research on the topics de-
scribed above is still limited within these age groups, but it shows the potential
of AR to enhance the learning experience of children in these two stages.
