shifts in understanding of the meaning and role of feedback. Based on research
on feedback in the field of education, and consequently on the development
of the concept itself, the view of the importance of the overall process and the
role of feedback in the learning process, including assessment and evaluation,
has evolved and developed. From an initial understanding of feedback as a
one-way process, emphasising the active role of the teacher, there has been a
shift towards an understanding of feedback as a communicative process, as a
dialogue between teacher and learner, with a focus on ‘student-centred’ learn-
ing and teaching.
