Teaching Ethics in the Study Programmes
of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Mathematics,
Natural Sciences and Information Technologies,
University of Primorska
Abstract
This chapter delivers information about teaching and studying
ethics in undergraduate and graduate study programmes of
Biopsychology and the postgraduate study programme of
Psychology at the University of Primorska. The course Ethics
and Humanity is being updated and will be renamed Ethics in
Psychology and Biopsychology. In addition, the subject of ethics
is integrated in various other courses. A large part is covered in
courses about research methods and the foundational courses
for psychological testing. Furthermore, the contents of ethics
are systematically included in three major applied fields where
students are introduced to contextuality of ethical dilemmas.
Teaching and studying ethics is interactive, providing students
with numerous opportunities to analyse different cases and
situations for ethical review and response. Throughout discussions
they build on their arguments and develop critical thinking. Taking
pedagogical needs into account, a Research Ethics Committee has
been established in the Department of Psychology, with the aim
to educate, understand and review ethical dilemmas in research
work.
