Teaching Ethics in the Study Programmes
of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts,
                 University of Ljubljana

                 Abstract
The chapter presents the ethical content taught in the 1st and
2nd phase study programmes in psychology at the University
of Ljubljana. The study programme does not contain a separate
subject of ethics. Instead, this content is covered in several
basic and applied subjects. A large part of the topics covered
relates to ethics in research with human subjects, introducing
students to important aspects of ethical conduct in research, and
also developing ethical competencies by applying the acquired
knowledge in the preparation of their own research. Courses
also teach ethical competencies in psychological assessment and
practical work in applied fields of psychology. This chapter presents
some examples of the teaching of ethical conduct in selected fields
of psychology and presents the idea of developing a reflective
professional as a fundamental goal of academic psychology
study. A reflective professional is a person who possesses and can
apply the full range of competencies in solving specific problems
in practice and science, with professional virtues that include
personal, professional, organizational, and social values. Ensuring
high-quality university degree psychology study programmes that
combine science and practice is a necessary strategic goal for the
advancement of the psychological profession and ethics that all
who train for the psychological profession must actively pursue.

                 ethics, research ethics, reflective practitioner
