Gibalna aktivnost učenk in učencev osnovnih šol v Prekmurju
Physical Activity of Primary School Students in Prekmurje:
A Glimpse into the Past and Opportunities for the Future
Physical activity contributes positively to the physical and mental health of
children. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that children
be physically active for at least one hour daily. The COVID-19 epidemic, self-
isolation measures, and emergency remote teaching greatly impacted how
much children move. In an empirical survey, we aimed to determine the state
of physical activity of pupils in the secondary educational cycle? of primary
school in the Prekmurje region during the COVID-19 epidemic and how these
findings support future planning in the field. The survey included 198 pupils.
Most students engaged in physical activity 5 to 7 times per week, mostly with
their families and alone at home. The prevalent intensity of physical activity
among pupils was moderate. We found that the majority of primary school stu-
dents in Prekmurje exercised regularly during the epidemic. However, they had
withdrawn from organized activities under expert leadership. In the future,
schools should strengthen extra-curricular activities and encourage pupils to
participate.
