Socialno-čustvena kompetenca učiteljev med preteklostjo in prihodnostjo
highly developed social and emotional competence create a stimulating, pos-
itive and inclusive classroom climate and are able to establish encouraging
and supportive relationships with students, which benefits the latter’s social,
emotional and academic development. The development of this competence
helps teachers to cope with stressful situations effectively and to master ev-
eryday challenges inherent in their profession more easily, to improve their
psychological well-being, and to be more satisfied and efficient in their work.
In the future, provision should be made for the development of this compe-
tence systemically at national level, i.e. to enhance the possibility of in-service
teacher training in this field, and to encourage the development of this com-
petence in students of teacher education study programmes as early as during
their studies.
