Smart ageing requires daily mental and physical activities, based on innova-
tion and creativity, not hardship. Educational institutions play a key role in en-
suring equal access to formal and informal education for all generations of the
population. They promote intergenerational solidarity by recognizing hetero-
geneity and diversity within and between age groups, cooperation and social
