Analysis of Theses on Distance Learning at the Faculty of Education,
University of Primorska
The coronavirus epidemic completely changed educational processes, initially
introducing distance learning as an alternative teaching method. The purpose
of our study is to determine the opportunities of distance learning as a way
of modernizing educational practices and the possible risks associated with
distance learning; this is done through the analysis of 11 theses published be-
tween 2020 and the end of 2021 at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Edu-
cation. The main advantages of distance education are highlighted as the pos-
sibility of more participants in distance education, reduced time and costs, the
autonomy of students, etc. In this way, learning becomes more open, prolifer-
ates and is present in all generations thanks to modern technologies. At the
same time, this removes the barriers to lifelong learning: education can take
place in all areas of life. Distance education also brings challenges, especially
for individuals’ social and emotional development. The analysis also showed
that distance learning questions traditional teaching methods and forms of
classroom work, how to motivate students and maintain attention, and the
autonomy and self-efficacy of students.
