Pre-Service Primary School Teachers’ Views on the Future Use of Digital
Technologies in Teaching and Learning
In this paper, students’ opinions about their digital competencies and their at-
titudes towards the use of digital technologies in education, and the role of
these factors in the use of digital technologies in their future teaching were
discussed. The preliminary study involved 85 students of the study programme
Primary School Teaching of the Faculty of Education of the University of Pri-
morska. The analysis of the students’ opinions showed that the majority of
students show positive attitudes towards the use of digital technologies in ed-
ucation and estimate that they will use digital technologies frequently in their
future pedagogical work in school. Students have no difficulties in familiaris-
ing themselves with new digital tools, but they have more difficulties in using
digital technologies in a targeted and didactically meaningful way in the learn-
ing and teaching process. The study also showed that there is a weak positive
correlation between students’ pedagogical digital competencies, their future
use of digital technologies and their attitudes towards the use of digital tech-
nologies, and a moderate positive correlation between students’ pedagogical
digital competencies and their attitudes towards the use of digital technolo-
gies in education. Regression analysis showed that attitude towards the use of
digital technologies in education is a significant predictor of the future use of
digital technologies in teaching.
