Summary

The concepts of SEN students and music are most often discussed in music therapy (Caf,
2008; Knoll and Knabe, 2008), while the debate on music education of SEN students is
rarely detected (Hammel and Hourigan, 2011). And although the system of music
education in Slovenia, on the basis of certain indicators of the quality and soundness of the
system (curriculum, law, finance, teaching music theory courses), is one of the most
regulated in Europe, as in most European countries where teaching takes place on a
personal level (Smolej Fritz, 2010), the question here is, how much SEN students have
actually benefited music education in Slovenian music schools?

Since there is no data on the involvement of SEN students in the Slovenian music school,
depending on the statistics that show a trend of increasing the share of SEN students in
mainstream primary schools (in the school year 2012/2013 was in elementary school,
10,400 SEN students which is 6, 5% of all pupils who are in elementary school, and a year
later the number of SEN students in the total population of school-age children increased
to 8.4% (Osnovnošolsko izobra evanje mladine in odraslih, 2014, 2015)), we conclude
that the SEN students also include in the music school.
